🥰 How You Can Help

At Travel Surf Morocco, our values are deeply rooted in our story, and that of a young boy named Moha. Born with a rare genetic condition and later battling leukemia, Moha’s life, though short, left an indelible mark on all of us. He passed away at the age of 17, but his impact lives on.

Moha found a second family with us at TSM, and the strength he gained through surfing brought him immense personal growth. His courage in the face of unimaginable challenges inspired us all, and we stood by him until his last breath.

As we prepared to become parents ourselves, this experience opened our eyes to the struggles faced by the rural community of Imsouane. It was through Moha’s journey that the core values of Travel Surf Morocco took shape—values that drive us to create a meaningful, impactful project that not only fosters a love for surfing but also contributes to the local community’s growth.

SOLIDARITY

Supporting Access to Healthcare

Health is the most valuable thing we have in life. Unfortunately, limited access, long distances, high costs, and a lack of awareness make healthcare and follow-up care difficult, sometimes even nearly impossible. Often, people have to wait until a situation becomes critical before receiving the necessary care.

As a result, many find themselves in emergency situations, facing high costs that they are unable to afford. In many families, only one person works to support everyone—most often in fishing, under harsh conditions or informally, which excludes them from Morocco’s social security system. We regularly assist families with the costs of diagnoses (consultations, tests, travel expenses), surgeries, or treatments.

Ours values Travel Surf Morocco (3)

As players in the tourism industry, we are aware that tourism development doesn’t benefit everyone equally. We believe it’s crucial to support families and communities in need. This support can take various forms, such as:

  • Funding infrastructure projects (water, electricity), road improvements leading to remote villages, or the construction, renovation, and equipment of homes and schools.

  • Donating everyday essentials: clothes, toys, school supplies, and basic food items (flour, oil, sugar, tea, etc.).

SHARING OUR PASSION FOR SURFING

Sharing Our Passion for Surfing with the Imsouane Community

One of our core values is commitment—both to our clients and to the people of Imsouane. Our initiatives for local youth are multifaceted, offering them the opportunity to learn how to surf and embrace a healthy, active lifestyle. These initiatives also foster open-mindedness, authentic connections, new passions, and sometimes even provide a real social stepping stone. Despite being so close to the ocean, many young people in Imsouane do not have regular access to the beach, let alone surf equipment.

Making Surfing Accessible in Morocco

We regularly organize free surf lessons for the youth of Imsouane, particularly during low seasons or special events throughout the year. Making surfing accessible involves providing our equipment (through loaning or donating old boards and wetsuits) and offering coaching sessions. Much like when you join us for a surf stay in Imsouane, our goal is to teach them the basics of surfing, its culture, and the spirit of the sport. But it’s also about instilling the value of effort, enjoyment, and the desire to keep pushing forward. By organizing these days, we create a space for self-expression and an opportunity to break free from their daily routine.

Encouraging Female Surfing in Imsouane

Female surfing holds a special place in our values. Despite their curiosity and motivation, young girls are often culturally absent from sports activities. By encouraging these young women to surf, we not only invite them to break away from their daily routine but also help them build self-confidence, open up to the world of tourism, and explore all the opportunities the ocean has to offer.

One great example of this is our collaboration with Justine Mauvin for the Solidarity Surf  initiative, which aims to inspire and empower young girls through surfing.

Investing in the Youth

The youth is the future, and they are at the heart of our concerns. We are committed to giving the local youth, who are often disadvantaged and isolated, the chance to experience something truly unique. This commitment is reflected through various spontaneous initiatives (city outings, festivals, mountain trips), as well as carefully planned events such as intercultural exchange programs.

For the past two years, we have organized a cultural exchange week with a youth association from France (AJBCB), centered around surfing, but much more than that. The essence of this project lies in the meetings and exchanges between teenagers from Imsouane and those from other places. It’s a precious opportunity to share cultures, traditions, and values, strengthening their sense of identity, highlighting their hospitality and generosity, and encouraging them to see the world through a broader, more inclusive lens. Our goal for the futur is to send a small group of students on a cultural trip to France, offering them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

You can join us during our initiation days or special events for the youth of Imsouane. You can also be part of their daily lives at the surf camp, which is always open to them. By sharing your surfing experience, your life philosophy, and your professional background, you’re opening up a whole new world for them.

INTEGRITY THROUGH RESPECTFUL DEVELOPMENT    OUR VALUES TSM

Protecting Our Environment

For Elsa, the environmental aspect has been a priority and a labor of love for seven years through the Surfrider Foundation Maroc. However, as time passed, social issues gradually took precedence. That said, the environment is still at the core of our values—it’s impossible to be in love with the ocean and not feel a deep sensitivity towards the environment that surrounds us. The daily experience of nature’s beauty and richness constantly reminds us of its importance.

As stakeholders in Imsouane, we are also aware of our role in its tourism development and the associated challenges that come with it, such as waste production, wastewater management, and the increasing foot traffic at surf spots. We are driven by the dream of creating a village that sets a standard for ecological practices. However, we remain aware that this vision is an ongoing challenge—one that requires collective effort and constant reflection.

Beach and village clean-up initiatives are organized regularly, with the goal of raising awareness about the fragility of our environment and creating greater consciousness. The issue of waste and wastewater management remains a complex challenge, with long processes required to implement infrastructure like landfills and wastewater treatment plants—projects that come with significant construction and operational costs, especially in rural areas with limited resources.

Preserving Our Surf Spot

We are also committed to protecting and valuing our surf spot. To achieve this, we work closely with the regional surf school association to protect our coastline and the waves that make our spots internationally renowned. We are ready to fight to preserve this Magic Bay…

Ensuring a respectful and friendly atmosphere in the water is also one of our priorities. As a visitor to the village and a user of the surf spot, we invite you to lead by example. Share the waves, don’t take them! Follow the safety rules and respect priorities—they are essential for peaceful surfing. Keep smiling, and remember, happiness is only real when it’s shared :)*

Valuing Local Culture

  • Celebrating Traditional Fishing :
Fishing is the heart and soul of Imsouane. Long before the first surfers arrived, the fishing boats and fishermen were already an integral part of the landscape. We encourage a respectful coexistence between these two communities, both of whom share the same ocean as their common ground.

  • Respecting Islamic Values and Local Traditions :
Islam, the predominant religion in Morocco, plays an essential role in the daily life of Imsouane. We take great care in sharing the cultural values of Islam and encouraging respect for local traditions. This includes advising our guests to wear respectful clothing while in the village and helping them understand what might be perceived as offensive by the locals.

  • Offering Authentic Experiences and Connecting with the Local Community :
We aim to offer our guests authentic experiences that foster meaningful interactions with the local population. By doing so, we create opportunities for cultural exchange and mutual understanding, enriching the experience for both visitors and residents.

  • Beautifying Our Village :
We are committed to making Imsouane even more beautiful, ensuring the preservation of its charm and character while supporting sustainable development. Our goal is to contribute to the ongoing beautification of the village, respecting its natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Supporting Local Development

As an economic player in the region, we believe it is our duty to contribute to local development and share the wealth generated by our activities. It is essential for us to promote the creation of local jobs, something we continually strive to do through our various projects and by expanding our team.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

If you share our values, there are many ways you can support all these causes! You can get involved by joining us at the surf camp, participating in our initiatives, proposing collaborations, or making a donation (either by bringing materials with you during your stay or by contributing money, which will be directed to specific needs for targeted families).

Together, we can make a real difference. Your support, no matter how small, helps strengthen these values and build a better future for the local community.
